This summer Nanaimo’s heart of the city will beat a bit stronger when the Commercial Street Night Market begins an eleven week run on Thursday, June 21. The popularity of ‘night markets’ has grown throughout urban centres over the past few years and now it’s Nanaimo’s turn to join this popular movement.
Commercial Street from Terminal Avenue to Church & Chapel Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic as artisan vendor booths line the streets selling everything from food to crafts to curios. Live entertainment will be staged at several points downtown. Food trucks will be located on Diana Krall Plaza and a variety of family activities like bouncy castles and climbing walls will be offered on each of the market nights.

The Thursday night festivities continue through to Sept 1. Over 100 vendors are projected to attend weekly. Vendor booths will operate from 5 pm to 9 pm.

With an eclectic mix of local merchants, artisans, craftspeople, farmers, entertainers and of course food vendors, there really is something for everyone. Dinner at the market or one of our many downtown restaurants? Why not? A variety of food with restaurants, vendors and food trucks offering everything from organic and vegan to comfort foods and ethnic options, all prepared onsite and freshly made for you! Whatever you decide, you are sure to find something to enjoy. You might also consider taking home some farm fresh produce to prepare your own feast. This year’s market is enjoying an increase in farm vendors providing us with the benefit of local and fresh options.
